The First Aid for Youth Mental Health Training Programme provides learners with the knowledge and practical understanding required to support young people experiencing mental health challenges. This course is designed for those working with or supporting children and young adults in schools, youth services, and community settings.
Aims
To equip learners with the confidence and skills to recognise, understand, and support young people experiencing mental health issues.
Skills Practised
This practical course supports learners to:
- Recognise signs of mental health issues in young people
- Understand common youth mental health conditions
- Provide initial support and reassurance
- Communicate effectively with young people in distress
- Support positive coping strategies
- Know when and how to escalate concerns
Note: Skills are developed through guided discussion, case studies, and scenario-based learning.
Learning Outcomes
By the end of the course, learners will be able to:
- Understand key youth mental health challenges
- Identify early warning signs of mental distress
- Provide appropriate initial support
- Communicate effectively with young people
- Signpost to further professional help when needed
This will enable them to:
- Support young people’s mental wellbeing
- Promote early intervention and awareness

- Respond confidently and appropriately
